I did the 8 week Beginners Course earlier this year and I absolutely loved it.

Our teachers, Tom and Jess, were so patient with us whilst we navigated our way around the big tools and new skills. They did this whilst keeping the class fun and entertaining. The group we had gelled so well.

I had designed a hallway bench seat. It was great seeing it progress from my drawings (on day 1) to a full on proper seat I can sit on (day 8). I was at first apprehensive using big, sharp tools but with all the safety precautions we are taught and using it under the careful eyes of our teachers, I was soon put to ease.

The facilities are well set out and conducive to being productive in class.

I can highly recommend this course and The Shed.

Second cause I’ve done, chip carving and chopping board. Both great but loved the chopping board day. From choosing the wood to finished product which I’m using in the kitchen. The day went really quickly and could have done with an extra half hour or so to finish sanding but nothing I couldn’t finish at home. 2 teachers to help which is awesome, both were excellent, hands on and practical all day. Loved it and highly recommend, in fact I’d do it again tomorrow in a heart beat!

I did the Beginner Course and made a record cabinet using Tasmanian Blackwood. I had never done woodworking before I started, and I am now the proud owner of woodworking skills and knowledge of wood and its properties. Tom and Jess were our tutors for the 8 weeks, and they were so encouraging and helpful to everyone. It was a pleasure being taught by them.

We had 6 ladies in our group, all building different things, yet we all bonded so well (and brought snacks!). I was lucky to be surrounded by them - we all had a great time and really enjoyed each other's company.

The Shed encourages a pleasant working environment, with safety first at all times. The tutors are experienced and responsive. It is clear they are passionate about the craft, and it inspires everyone whom they teach.

I recommend The Shed to anyone, irrespective of experience in woodworking. I will absolutely be coming back in 2025!

The Saturday morning beginners course at The Shed was the best thing I've done in ages. Ricky and Rohan were great instructors, and made all of the details and techniques comprehensible even to a complete beginner. It was a really fun process, and it's very satisfying to now have a piece of furniture that I saw come together from scratch. It definitely made me want to keep learning more about woodworking, and I'm already thinking about projects I could take on in the future to try to practice and learn more. I can't recommend the course enough.

The course is very well thought for beginners. Tutors went through every detail mentioning the possible issues and how to avoid them. My project was probably too big but I recieved so much help that I had to only finish sand it and paint it after taking it home. I absolutely recommend it. Thanks to Ricky and Rohan
