We have been dealing with WMI since 2012. A very well run & considerate operation. The approval of so much urban encroachment should see council approving a BioGas facility to deal with the odours in the area.

Wood mulching industries needs to take responsibility for the smell they are producing it is affecting the whole of Ripley and me and my family are going to move out of our house because of this smell.

Cannot open a window or enjoy the neighbourhood anymore due to the smell this operation is creating.

Poor management, no lack of care for the community and a complete disregard for the fire that burnt there for 9 days.

I own and run my own business and If I knew I was doing such a bad thing for the community I would make a plan.

Management need to pull up there socks and do something about this as we have all had enough.

First the foul stench, now toxic smoke coming from this vile place. Even on Christmas day and during storms. It cannot be just mulch that's burning, it's so incredibly strong and toxic smelling.

This place should be banned and run out of business.

WMI is poisoning residents and wildlife not just in the immediate vicinity but many suburbs over. To any potential customers, stay away from WMI! Do not give them any business.

Wood Mulching Industries (WMI) claims to manage its 70-hectare facility with the strictest environmental controls and cutting-edge technology for processing and manufacturing. However, fines from the Department of Environment and Science raise serious concerns about the company's actual commitment to these purported standards.

The $13,345 penalty infringement notice (PIN) issued to WMI resulted from an investigation into odour issues affecting residents in Redbank Plains. The Department's Odour Abatement Taskforce (OAT) confirmed that WMI was the sole source of offensive odours on multiple occasions in December 2020 and February 2021. This contradicts WMI's assertion that its facility is managed with the strictest controls and state-of-the-art technology.

While WMI has the option to contest the PIN, the substantial enforcement actions taken by the department paint a troubling picture of the company's environmental compliance. The Odour Abatement Taskforce has received a staggering 9572 reports about odours and dust nuisances in the Swanbank area since 2018, and WMI is just one of the many operators facing penalties.

The range of enforcement measures, including 12 PINs totaling $132,724, 23 formal warnings, and two Environmental Evaluations, raises questions about WMI's commitment to addressing the concerns of the community. Additionally, the department has issued an Environmental Protection Order, initiated a Transitional Environmental Program, and commenced prosecution against another operator in the area, indicating a broader issue within the Swanbank Industrial Area.

WMI's claims of utilizing advanced technology for odour management are contradicted by the need for such extensive enforcement actions. The fact that fines and warnings have been issued indicates a failure to adhere to environmental regulations, undermining the company's assurances about its commitment to responsible operations.

It is essential to highlight that the company's assertion of strict environmental controls and cutting-edge technology is directly contradicted by tangible evidence of odour issues affecting the community. The fines and enforcement measures imposed by the Department of Environment and Science underscore the significant impact of WMI's operations on the quality of life for residents near their facility.

In conclusion, Wood Mulching Industries' claims about the stringent management of its facility are called into question by the recent fines and enforcement measures. The impact on the quality of life for residents in the area raises serious doubts about the company's commitment to environmental responsibility and its ability to manage its operations in a manner consistent with community well-being.
