Called for BULK pick up for one 8x10 rug. Informed they will not pick up any rug over 4'x4' lol what! I can fit that in a kitchen trash bag! What's the point of bulk pick up if they won't take anything bulky? Overcharging customers and advertising services they wiggle out of providing. City should renegotiate contract.

Just got off the phone with a lady by the name of Amber who abruptly hung up on me because she accuse me of being disrespectful to her. When in fact, I have the entire recording and I wasn’t completely unprofessional and refusing to provide information that is detrimental to my home.

How to Recycle Cardboard Boxes in San Luis Obispo: A Primer

Break down cardboard boxes. This is standard practice everywhere.

Here’s where it gets weird. In most cities, you place the broken-down boxes next to your recycling bin. Not in San Luis Obispo.

1) Slice the broken-down boxes into pieces that are small enough to fit in the very small blue recycling bin.

2) Tie the pieces with twine or string so they are in neat bundles.

3) Place the twine-bound bundles into the recycling bin. The pieces of cardboard must be tied into bundles even if they are contained in the bin.

4) Additional twine-bound bundles may be placed next to the recycling bin. Just make sure that they, too, are small enough to fit in the bin.

5) Finally, if you have additional bundles, you MUST call San Luis Garbage in advance to alert them that there will be additional bundles. You must inform them of the EXACT number of bundles that will be next to the recycling bin because their crew absolutely needs to know in advance how many bundles there will be. They must prepare accordingly.

This system is not only cumbersome. It is objectively stupid and wasteful. It shouldn’t be this difficult for consumers to responsibly recycle cardboard.

San Luis Garbage says they have to do things this way because it’s how their trucks are designed. That, too, is stupid.

Mandatory Garbage service here in the City of San Luis Obispo- So we as property owners have to pay them at some level by law. I've called them half a dozen times over the past few days. No answer, no call back.... Wishing I had some choices here...

The guys stopped by today to empty our Green and Food Waste bin. I had been working all morning cutting back a very large rose bush and had filled the bin. Next to the bin was a large pile (I mean huge) of branches from the rose bush... easily two more bins full. The guys not only emptied the bin, but they took the time to load the excess pile into their truck and take it away also. Thank you so much for going above and beyond. They absolutely made my day!
