The National University of Río Negro (UNRN) is a public university created in December 2007 by law 26,330. The first academic year of the University began in March 2009. The operation of the UNRN is organized in three headquarters: Atlantic Headquarters, Andean Headquarters and Alto Valle and Medio Valley Headquarters. The head of the Atlantic Headquarters is located in the city of Viedma, where the Rectorate also operates; that of the Andean Headquarters in San Carlos de Bariloche, and that of the Alto Valle and Valle Medio Headquarters in General Roca. Academic activities are also carried out in the cities of El Bolsón, Allen, Cinco Saltos, Cipolletti, Choele Choel and Villa Regina.
