Auburn Botanic Gardens is a well-maintained urban escape with highlights like the Japanese Garden and a fauna reserve with native Australian animals.
Visitors enjoy peacocks, cherry blossoms (seasonal), and peaceful walking paths.
It’s family-friendly, educational, and good for picnics. Some reviewers noted the animal enclosure felt small.
Entry is free for Cumberland residents, with a fee for others.

Beautiful and peaceful garden. The Japanese garden is very pretty - I felt as if I was in Japan.

We had a fantastic experience visiting Auburn Botanic Gardens with our daughter’s kindergarten class! The trip was both fun and educational—we learned so much about the different types of birds and plants that thrive in Auburn, as well as species from around the world.
The gardens are beautifully maintained, and it was wonderful to see the kids so engaged, asking questions and exploring nature up close. The variety of birds, especially in the aviary, was a highlight, and the staff provided great insights into their habitats and behaviors.
It’s a perfect place for a school excursion or a family outing. We left with a deeper appreciation for nature and will definitely be back to explore more! Highly recommend a visit.

Stunning gardens! Loved walking through it all and it was definitely a highlight of being in Sydney. The little animal enclosure was a surprise but also a bit sad since it just reminds you of a zoo and the young kangaroos looked so sad and quiet.
